Babylon 5 - What are your thoughts?
« on: August 23, 2018, 02:35:11 AM »

"The Babylon Project was our last best hope for peace!"

Hello Sci Fi fans if you are like Babylon 5 - this might be the right Thread for you   :indeed

In the future i will open up some Quizzes, polls, Informations and eveything else about a not so popular TV Show.

I will start with the following Question : What are your thoughts about the TV show

If you ask me : I really like the Show cause it is something special between this many Sci Fi shows out theire. It shows us more detailed storys between Humans and Alien racials furthermore offers this series a really good told story about an old Enemy as well as an impressiv development of characters.

I love this show and i dont mind that this series has not much action in it - it is old shool ! and sometimes it has its epic moments too.

I enjoyed it, they had some good stories, G'kar really grew through the series and I liked where he went.  I really enjoyed  the interactions between him and Londo, some were very funny, and of course as it grew near the end it was sad and uplifting at the same time.

I think it was good to end where it did, I do not think it could have gone on any longer.

So I hadn't ever really heard of Babylon 5 until a few months ago (I don't know why not?!) and I heard about it on a Facebook sci-fi poll and thought I'd give it a try since the fans were so passionate about it.

Oh.

My.

Goodness.

I have fallen in love! This show is so amazing. I've been binging it on Amazon Prime, and I'm almost finished with it now. A couple movies and a few episodes left.

A side note, my husband and I have been trying to watch Deep Space 9 for a couple years. Neither of us really enjoyed it when it originally aired, (not sure if I even finished it back then), so we decided to give it a try as adults. It's been a STRUGGLE. We both want to finish it for principle sake (we're both huge fans of TNG, and I'm a huge fan of Voyager, and I enjoyed Enterprise even though most Trekkies didn't). Anyway, we're almost finished season 5 and stalled again. I started watching Bab 5 in the meantime and it is SO MUCH BETTER. Like, 5 miles ahead

My thoughts on the show are all jumbled. I agree with what you said about the human alien relations being so fleshed out. I love the world created, how it's basically like our Earth present, just a couple hundred years in the future. It's not dystopian or utopian, it just is.

I really just love the storytelling. How there are hints dropped here and there, foreshadows, something is mentioned but not described, then like, 20 episodes later you get the whole story and you're like, so THAT'S what they were talking about! I love how each season is different (the 5 parts to a story, each season is one part...I can't remember the names of them...). The first season introduces you to the world, the second season shoots off at a rapid pace I think I went through that one fastest. The third season continues the action and drama but changes things up, the fourth season kinda similar, the fifth season has been a bit weird, things winding down and all, but the storylines are still good, particularly with Londo and G'Kar.

Londo and G'Kar. Talk about unusual protagonists. Or are they antagonists? I don't even know! There were definitely scenes with them, individually or together, where I've cried. They have an intense dynamic by the end.

I can't wait to see how this is all finished. But I'm worried I will be sad so I'm kindof dragging the end out.

Oh yeah, and I love the music  :D :D :sam10

Particularly the first and second season intro themes. My husband thinks I'm weird and they just sound old and cheesy...but I feel good whenever I hear the Bab 5 music

FINALY! some one who understand how well made Babylon 5 is ^^

I agree with you in any point you mentioned but i forgott one thing.

Babylon 5 is the first sci fi show that containes a love story about several Seasons and this Romance is well told too. Captian John Sheridan (later president of the ISA) and delenn.

I love this Romance because it perfectly shows how two different cultures come together. It is not a wild and young Love story either.

The other thing is GĀ“Kar and Londo. two people who belong to another race and who only combines hate becomes good friends later.

I love these Characters and how they develop.

The Music fits very well intro the Universe and gave me some feelings at some points. My favourite Music is the Season 4 Intro cause its EPIC AS HELL!. Its like you start with your ship and leads it right into the action.

Oh and i had to cry at the last Episode Music. The Scene and the Music perfectly match into each other and tells you "this is the end".  >(

:OT Most people seem to prefer DS9 to some of the other Treks. You should finish it. Many say that Season 6 is the best season. Like all seasons there's some not so good episodes but not that many.

@Troy I do intend to finish DS9, it's just been such a struggle from the very beginning and I was just comparing it to Bab 5 (as they are similarly themed shows, aired around the same time) which was basically amazing for me from the beginning on. There were maybe a couple episodes here or there that weren't that great for me, maximum 2 a season, but it has been pretty much the opposite with DS9 for me.

We'll see how season 6 is, once I get to it. Basically I'm watching several shows right now and I sit down at night with an hour to watch TV and I think, "which show do I want to watch?" and it's never DS9...

@DeDarkstar yes the romantic relationship between Sheridan and Delenn is different from the usual, I think. First of all it's development is so drawn out, just like all the storylines, that it's development seems so natural. And they handle it in such a mature fashion, which makes sense for their characters. And it's interesting to see them balance their two cultures; their traditions and sleeping habits haha.

Londo and G'Kar...I was told that their storylines (particularly G'Kar's) really develop over the series and I was in the middle of season 3, I think, and I wasn't seeing it. But yes, their character development is insane! I can't really think of anything that compares. They go through so much together, five 20-some episode seasons of dense storytelling - so much between their peoples, their individual ambitions and life stories, their experiences together. And spoiler now...
