Stargate Atlantis continuation

It has been asked within the SG1 threads what folks would like to see happen if that franchise might be continued in the future. So I thought it relevant to find out what our member's thoughts were on the remote possibility that Atlantis could get another shot.

Too much of it was left unfinished, my opinion being that Atlantis had many more years of life in it to be dumped as it was in favor of that horrid SGU exercise. The Wraith for example, we should have been given far more history in a visual sense with them, doing 'in the past' episodes or even as with SG1, a time travel adventure. The Vanir were just a flash in the pan, there could have been a whole season devoted to that story as with the Goa'uld and Ori. What are your thoughts?

I would have loved to see another brush with those aliens that they encountered in the Daedalus Variations, the ones who had no name but were pretty darn strong. That was just a glimpse and also would have been cool.

Some more AU content as well, with the possibilities opened up by Vegas. Apparently Wraith signals could travel between universes/dimensions. Seeing some more of those would have been fascinating for sure.

Back when it just ended I would have loved to have more Atlantis. I think it could have gone on for another 2 seasons easily, and had a nice 7 season run. 7 seems like it's often a good number for series. At the very least I think the fans deserved a movie conclusion, like they did with SG1. I was pretty upset they didn't do even that.

Now, I don't think Atlantis could restart very well. I think they would do better to continue SGU. But I could definitely go for a spin-off that's closely related to Atlantis. I don't know how they would bring in all the novels and comics, though. I haven't read them, but I'm pretty sure I've seen they show the city returning to Pegasus, people becoming Wraith then returning to human, and more. For people who've read the books and comics, would they want that to be included as history/canon if they did some more SGA or an SGA spinoff? I'm thinking they could do another show set in Pegasus, with a basically new crew, perhaps a couple minor characters could rollover.

But I think what I would want most is an SGU continuation that continued to bring in SG1 characters, and some SGA characters possibly. I think that would be the easiest thing. Or a completely new one, as different and as similar and as connected as SGA was to SG1.

The most outstanding problem we as fans face is the fact that all our regular cast are at least ten years older now, thereby making them slightly in some cases in the 'retired' arena as far as taking on previous roles. Sam Carter would by logic be a General now, as would Cam and Sheppard close to being so. RDA would be out of the question other than cameos, though Michael Shanks could play his role well into his sixties. Teal'c is another matter of course. In my mind it would possibly involve a whole new casting of new characters.

@Ellen_Ripley I agree. Not only for their part, but for the fan part I think it would be really hard to adjust to them being so much older "all of a sudden" (as compared to when we last saw them in the SG universe), it would be challenging finding storylines that could fit them in that would be realistic roles for their ages. I think a new cast would be necessary, and possibly a new setting.

I don't think it's impossible by any means, SGA was a huge success with a whole new cast. Being in the same universe, ties to the other three shows, and some cameos is all we would ask for.

(and good writing, good visual effects, good directing.... :W)

@MissCobra1018 So true there. I think from the general consensus I have seen around that the majority of fans would really like to see something new that embraced all three franchises in one show. I don't know how they could pull that off, as SG1 and SGA might be relatively easy to combine, yet slightly more difficult to include SGU. Then you have the casting issue as we mentioned above with ageing actors; even the younger crew of SGU would look much older now. For example David Blue as he is now.

Normal ... aging is inevitable, so they should set it many years later, almost twenty years later, in this way they could put everything inside >(
